FOUNDED BY EBENEZER NORTH
Northern Oil was founded in 1887 by Ebenezer North, at a time when paraffin was essential for lighting and heating homes. Originally supplying paraffin oil to local households and businesses, the company quickly became known for its reliability and practical service.
This early focus on meeting everyday needs laid the foundations for what Northern Oil still represents today - a dependable local fuel supplier with strong roots in Nottinghamshire and the surrounding counties.
1937
PURCHASED BY THE BIRKIN FAMILY
In 1937, Northern Oil was acquired by the Birkin family, who continue to own and operate the business to this day. The transition marked a period of growth, while maintaining the same commitment to customer service and product quality that had defined the company since its inception.
Over the decades, Northern Oil has adapted to changes in fuel technology and customer demand, while remaining a family-run business that values long-term relationships over short-term gains.
1960
A NEW ALLIANCE WITH TEXACO
In 1960, Northern Oil formed a strategic alliance with the Regent Oil Company, which later became Texaco. This partnership strengthened our ability to supply high-quality fuels and lubricants and has continued for more than 50 years.
